The Tree and Me

The Tree and Me
(c) 2006 Jon Trott

I whispered to the tree
The tears inside me that could not fall
I clung to its rough bark
Trunk scratched my lips against it bleeding…

I spoke pain to yellow leaf
Sounds that only broken hearts can hear
Suffering so near silently
Hope yellow flutters down the dirt so near

I whispered to the tree
Its roots in life beneath the hard gray ground
Its answer was to be -
In silence hard but than words more true

I suffered as I clung
Dark branches hanging shadow-kissed me
I know there is a God
Because of suffering and this graceful tree

Adoration

Adoration
(c) 2006 Jon Trott

God is true if anything is.
God is love if love exists.
God is faithful or none are.
God is God, so sing this:

Adoration
My hand outstretches to You
Adoration
My heart outstretches to You

God is right if anyone is.
God is pure as clear fresh rain
God is power and might.
God is mercy, sing again:

Adoration
My mind outstretches to You
Adoration
My lips cry out for more of You

God is strong or we will die.
God is kind or no kindness comes.
God is patient or we will burn.
God is gentle in His Lamb and Son.

Adoration
My soul opens up to You
Adoration
My mouth cries “Abba!” to You
Adoration
I surrender all to You.
I surrender all to You.
